Severn Spinal ODN

The Severn Regional Spinal Network was created in 2017 to influence and improve the care of spinal patients in the Severn Region. Our Network is one of 14 spinal networks nationally. The network aims to ensure that, when needed, spinal patients are able to access an appropriate service in a timely manner with quality and safety assured throughout the appropriate pathway.  The network serves both adult and paediatric spinal services.

The Severn Regional Spinal Network became a formalised Operational Delivery Network (ODN) in 2020.

The Severn Spinal ODN works closely with colleagues and fellow networks in the Severn Region and nationally to continue a programme of improvement for Spinal Services.

The Network has the following boards/groups which meet regularly:

  • Network Board
  • Network Clinical Steering Group

The Network Board meets three times per year and the Network Clinical Steering Group meets bi-monthly. Additional specialist and sub-group meetings are convened throughout the year and aim to focus on specific aims and work plan objectives. The annual work programme and key quality outcome data are presented and discussed with agreed actions and shared with NHS England.

Further information is available under Our Governance.

Strategic Goals

The Network aims to focus on four key strategic areas

  1. Improvements in quality of spinal services and outcomes for patients across the Severn Region.
  2. Promote developments in spinal care pathways to spread best practice across the Severn Region.
  3. To maximise availability of spinal care resources and minimise delays in access.
  4. To minimise the requirement for spinal care by empowering patients with spinal problems

Mission statement

To guide the delivery of a high quality, safe and sustainable spinal service across the Severn Spinal ODN and ensure patients can access effective advice and treatment in a timely manner.
